The museum houses the hymn to St John the Baptist composed by the Lombard nobleman from Cividale, Paolo Diacono. From the first syllables of the Latin hymn, namely UT, RE, MI, FA, SOL, LA, Guido d'Arezzo, setting the hymn to music, derived the names of the notes of the hexachord. The note SI was added during the Renaissance since medieval music and Gregorian chants did not include the sensitive note.
