The Consorzio della Chiusa di Casalecchio e del Canale di Reno is a body with very ancient origins that date back to the early thirteenth century; formed in its present form in 1851 with the reunion of two pre-existing Consortia, one for the Chiusa and the other for the Canal, has as its end the distribution of water derived from the river Rhine for industrial (hydroelectric energy, heat exchangers, etc.), environmental and irrigation uses.

The seat of the consortium is currently located in via della Grada 12 in Bologna. The water regulation is located in Casalecchio di Reno in via Porrettana 187, in Bologna in via della Grada 12 and in via Marconi 45. The management is ensured by the Council of Delegates, in office for 6 years, composed of 20 members, representatives of the consortium members, who are the owners and usufructuaries of the buildings underlying the hydraulic network consortile. They meet every two years in the General Assembly to elect this Council. Within the Council of Delegates, the Board of Directors is elected, composed of 7 members and a President. Together they carry out the ordinary management of the Consortium. No compensation is granted to those who hold consortia administrative positions. The administrative bodies shall consist exclusively of the members concerned. The Consortium is composed exclusively of the owners who make use in any way of the water derived from the Rhine through the Casalecchio Lock or otherwise use channels or conduits.
