Loviste Beach

In the very west of the Pelješac peninsula hides, as they like to call it, a true "oasis of peace", Lovište. This small town is located in one of the most beautiful bays on the peninsula, and includes as much as 4 kilometers of coastline with numerous bays and natural beaches. Although it is mentioned in historical sources as far back as the 14th century, the settlement of Lovište was created in the 19th century, when it was settled mostly by immigrants from the island of Hvar who chose Pelješac instead of emigrating to America. Today, as in the past, the population is mainly engaged in fishing and growing olives and producing premium olive oils. The climate here showed all its benefits, because in Lovište, with almost 3,000 hours of sunshine a year and very little rainfall, it is almost always the ideal time for swimming.

Lovište presents visitors with the true exoticism of a small Dalmatian fishing village where everyone can find their piece of peace and relax from the city crowds and fast-paced everyday life. Thanks to its position at the end of the peninsula, this oasis of peace does not experience excessive crowds even during the peak summer tourist season. Some of the bays are not accessible by land, but can only be reached by sea, which makes them attractive for sailors. In addition to boaters, the coves on this part of the Pelješac peninsula, and especially the main Lovište beach, have been recognized by visitors looking for a quiet place for a family holiday with children. There are showers and changing rooms on this pebble beach, and a few steps away there is a shop, cafe and restaurant to discover local delicacies such as fresh fish, shellfish and seafood. The purity of the turquoise sea is also evidenced by the lushly developed flora and fauna. Namely, in the water area along the coast of Lovište, you can find settlements of posidonia sea grass and a protected species of periska shell that can only be found in clean seas.

In addition, Lovište can boast of its lighthouse. Built at the end of the 19th century, the lighthouse is separated from the lighthouse building and is located right on the seashore, and the building is pushed 200 meters inland. It is located on Cape Lovišće, at the point where the Neretva, Korčula and Pelješac channels meet. The lighthouse has the status of a protected cultural asset as a profane architectural heritage.

Fun fact: Lovište was isolated from the mainland until 1973, when the first road was built, and until then the village could only be reached by sea.
