Pedestrian and Hiking Trails on Peljesac and in the Dubrovnik Coast

At the very mention of hiking on Pelješac, the sight of St. Ilija, the highest peak of Pelješac located above the nearby Orebić. And while St. Ilija is a favourite and well-known destination for hikers, primarily because of the views that open up to the islands on one side and the mainland on the other, Pelješac offers hiking and walking trails for people of different experience, fitness and adventure knowledge. An interactive online map of hiking and walking trails on Pelješac was created through the joint efforts of tourist boards. The map is available at the link: https://www.dalmatia-trails.bike/peljesac-staze/.

The map shows a total of six hiking trails, with a total length of 39 kilometers. Some of the marked hiking trails are marked, while others are unmarked with classic markings, but digital traces are therefore available for all trails. Tracks can be downloaded and used on smartphones and watches. Moving on hiking trails means moving on macadam and mountain roads, while hiking trails sometimes also mean moving on asphalt. Be sure to equip yourself well, bring protection against the sun, a sufficient amount of water and be well informed before departure. Unlike more demanding hiking, walking is also possible around larger settlements, so some hiking trails are located around Ston, Mali Ston, Trpanj and Orebić. There is also a station of the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service in Orebić.

The Dubrovnik Coast is expanding its range of services, so in cooperation with the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service, the Tourist and Mountaineering Map of the Dubrovnik Coast was created, which shows the pedestrian and hiking trails in the municipality. The map is available in most bookshops and sporting goods stores for mountaineers, so be sure to get maps before heading out into the field. Information about all hiking trails in the area of the Dubrovnik coast, as well as the Pelješac peninsula, is available on the HGSS website: https://www.hgss.hr/kartografija/. Be sure to check the trails before you go on a solo adventure. Collect all the necessary information, first of all about the clothes and shoes needed for safe walking on the trail, and don't forget to check the locations of restaurants, taverns and other catering establishments.

Fun fact: The highest peak of Pelješac is St. Ilija, which is located at 960 meters above sea level and represents the most beautiful viewpoint among the sea mountain peaks.
