The stairs and the pedestrian street of Gerokostopoulou Street are one of the most popular meeting and leisure points for the residents of Patras. The stairs of Gerokostopoulou are one of the three stairs that connect the Upper with the Lower city and were built on October 24, 1886 during the mayoralty of Dimitris Patrinos. Their original name was Agios Georgios stairs as at the end there was a church dedicated to Agios Georgios, while they were also known as Giogarakis stairs, because of the historic cafe of Periklis Giogarakis that existed at the top until the 60's. They consist of 61 steps and in many places near them are excavated parts of the Roman Stadium - Theater dating back to the 10th AD. century. This point of interest is Plain and Urban.
