Havarovrisi is an area located between the city of Amaliada and the Municipality of Pineia. In the first post-war years, the calm among the Greek people had not been fully restored, resulting in a number of reactions among the citizens. Thus, in the autumn of 1947, in the area of Havarovrisi, one of the most dramatic moments in the history of post-war Ileia developed. An armed group of gendarmes and hoplites of the Rural Security Units were savagely attacked by guerrillas of the Sfakianos group, resulting in the murder of 33 men.
