Narta Lagoon

Narta Lagoon is easily accessible in all directions with a surface of about 2900 ha, 1500 ha of which is occupied by the Narta saltworks which adds value even more to this area. Narta Lagoon with a depth of no more than 1.5 m is used by the local community for fishing activity, there are about 50 fishermen of the area registered in the Organization of Fisheries Management that are mainly engaged in collecting sea bass, eel, cod, etc. An important fact to be mentioned is the natural aspect of Narta lagoon derives from the presence of waterfowl, where about 15,000 individuals and more than 35 species are found during different periods in the lagoon.

The largest amount of those species are in the Narta salt flats, which are favored by the lower water level, the presence of mud marshes that give the opportunity for birds to nest. Among the most common types are: flamingos that also serve as a reason to develop BirdWatching activity; curly pelican which is also one of the largest species in the world and it uses the Narta lagoon for food, riders and beaks for which the Narta lagoon is the main place in Albania for their nesting. Two other small lagoons next to the Narta lagoon serve as tourist points precisely for the geographical position in which they are located:

Kallëngë Lagoon which has the presence of Narta dunes and it is a lagoon which is located in the northernmost part of PM Vjosa-Narta near the Vjosa estuary. In the vicinity of this lagoon there are also historical bunkers drawn with historical symbols where history intertwines with nature.

Limpuo Lagoon which is located on the west side of Narta lagoon, near the beach of Porto Novo is a very tourist point in which we have an intersection between the lagoon, the sea and the Zvërnec’s shores.
