The Conservatory of Udine has been housed in Palazzo Ottelio since the end of the Great War when the direction was entrusted to Mario Mascagni, composer, and band director, as well as the cousin of the more famous Pietro. It was named after the composer of sacred music and maestro di cappella of Cividale's cathedral Jacopo Tomadini in 1922.  With its transformation into a state school in 1981, it is the most important musical institute in Friuli.
