The Basilica of Aquileia, the mother church of a very ancient diocese, possesses wonderful acoustics and is often used for concerts. The Church of Aquileia was the cradle of a long liturgical and musical tradition that started with monodic singing and progressed to polyphonic singing. Even today, in the territory of the ancient Patriarchate of Aquileia, between Udine, Gorizia, and above all Carnia, the traditions of the so-called Aquileian chant of the patriarchal rite, of the discants and of the missus (celebration of the Christmas novena, every day from December 15 to 24, centred on the singing of the passage in Luke's Gospel narrating the Annunciation).
