Duba Beach

On the northern side of the Pelješac peninsula, only 13 kilometers from Trpanj, which is connected to the mainland by ferry, there is a small place, one of the last oases of nature and the Mediterranean as it once was - Duba Pelješka. It is a place of typical Mediterranean house architecture, with an old Gothic church on the very coast, which with its buildings bears witness to the continuity of life in the area of Duba since ancient times. Stone watering holes for livestock tell us about life in the time of the Illyrians, while the cave in Duba reveals life in the Bronze Age. Today, Duba has only 29 inhabitants and offers one of the last experiences of a real Dalmatian fishing village where life was not easy, and in addition to fishing, there was also olive growing. There is no mass tourism and commercialization of everything from olives to salt here yet.

Next to Duba is one of the most beautiful beaches on Pelješac - Duba beach - which starts right next to the small harbor in the town. The beach is easily accessible on foot, by bicycle and by car. It consists of gravel and is extremely suitable for a relaxing vacation for the whole family. In the natural environment of green pine trees and clear sea, Duba is a beach that offers its visitors, above all, a break from everyday noise and deadlines. Since there are no additional fun and adrenaline activities on the beach itself, all the fun of the vacation depends on you and what you take with you. Sometimes it's just best to come and enjoy the smell and sound of the sea. Next to the beach there is an autocamp with 20 camping spots, equipped sanitary facilities and electricity connections. The autocamp is three minutes away from the beach. There are no restaurants on the beach, while you can refresh yourself at a nearby cafe, and you can take care of all other modern needs in nearby Trpanj, where there is a bank, post office, pharmacy, shops and restaurants. You can find accommodation in Duba with local renters who offer their services right next to the beach.

Duba Pelješka is known for growing olives and producing olive oil. Cultivation of olives began in Roman times, and until recently this area had 18,000 olive trees. This is not the case today, as a large part of the population has moved to the USA, but olive oil is still produced from the autochthonous olive variety called oblica, which is considered the best Croatian autochthonous variety. After swimming and sunbathing on the calm turquoise beach, be sure to look for oblica oil from local producers.

Fun fact: There is only one local road leading to the village of Duba. Most of the inhabitants moved out during the 19th and 20th centuries, and Duba today resists mass tourism and offers a unique opportunity for a perfect vacation in the surroundings of a small Dalmatian fishing and olive-growing village.
