Viganj Beach

A small town in the southwest of the Pelješac peninsula with a long maritime tradition, Viganj, has recently become a desirable tourist destination for those who like to enjoy an active vacation in addition to a quiet family vacation. In addition to Viganj being called the Croatian capital of windsurfing, a walk through untouched nature and the scents of medicinal Mediterranean herbs that are ubiquitous here are essential for visitors. In addition, it would be a shame to miss tasting the famous Pelješac wines and local olive oil, and it is also recommended to visit the old picturesque Pelješac villages. Nearby is St. Ilija, the most popular hiking destination on Pelješac, whose rocky part is full of medicinal plants, while the view from above will most certainly remain forever etched in the memory of everyone who finds themselves there. However, what attracts the most fans of adventure and active vacations are the beaches. Viganj has even more than 7 kilometers of coastline, so everyone will easily find their own piece of beach for a quiet and active family vacation.

Since Viganj developed by the sea and there are no private beaches, visitors have a whole series of smaller beaches with clear and clean water at their disposal. Given that Viganj is located along the narrowest part of the Pelješac channel, due to the narrow passage the wind gains its strength here and creates ideal conditions for windsurfing, and the perfect beach for that is the Viganj beach. During the hot summer months, the mistral wind is a daily occurrence in Viganj. The average wind speed is 30 km/h, and in the hottest part of the day it sometimes reaches a speed of 70 km/h, so instead of the usual humidity, the air here brings freshness in the summer.

In addition, the following activities are available to lovers of active vacations on Viganj beach: kitesurfing, sailing, wakeboarding, sea skiing, diving, swimming, stand up paddling and paragliding. For those who are just about to try some of these activities, there are also windsurfing and kitesurfing schools nearby, and those who are already true masters in mastering the waves confidently assure that anyone can learn to surf in 10 school hours. Near the beach, there are numerous beach bars, restaurants and taverns at the visitors' disposal, which delight both with the offer of traditional local dishes and wines, as well as with modern snacks, healthy drinks, top-quality pancakes and homemade ice cream made from exclusively natural ingredients without dyes, preservatives, additives and taste enhancers.

Fun fact: In 2013, Viganj hosted the World Windsurfing Championship, precisely because of the ideal conditions and wind, and more than 150 of the best surfers from all over the world participated.
