Gurica Village - Climbing Area

Pelješac is full of rocks. There are especially many rocks around Orebić on St. Ilija, and it is a wonder that with all the world of recreational sportsmen and adventurers riding waves, flying, diving, cycling and running, the rocks are not full of sport climbers. Climbing on Pelješac is an increasingly popular activity, the routes are well-known, and information about climbing on Pelješac appears on the sports pages of sports climbers and recreational climbers.

In order for climbing to be successful, safe and attract climbers who will spend part of their stay and vacation on the rock, it is important that the climbing area is arranged. The first two sectors are arranged above Orebić next to the small village of Gurića, which you reach when you turn right in Orebić near the Bellevue Hotel at the Bilopolje - Lampalovo - Guriće sign. After a short car ride, you can see the rock. There is also a family farm HRID in Gurića village, where you can finish or start climbing, with dinner, lunch and wine, just check the opening hours beforehand and order something from the oven.

The two regulated sectors are called Pržun and Hrid. A sector means a rock that offers climbers a series of routes of different weights and lengths and secured by intermediate belays, which climbers call spits. There are two sectors of different positions, so the one with the easier directions faces south, which can be too hot in the summer months and in the afternoon, a real hot spot. The second is facing southwest and contains more difficult courses. On the easier one, it is possible to climb until about 11 o'clock in the morning, when it is protected by the shadow of the southwest rock. Anchorages are in excellent condition.

The climbing area near the village of Guriće offers a total of over twenty routes. Easier routes on the southern rock, difficulty 4b to 5c, with one route rated 7. The length of the directions is from 8 to 19 meters. On the other hand, the harder rock offers directions mostly with a grade of 6 and some five and seven. The length of these directions is from 8 meters to 23 meters.

Climbing is an activity that develops the whole body. It's fun, yet carries a certain dose of adrenaline and sweat, and as such is a perfect combination with swimming on the nearby beaches.

Fun fact: The initial routes were arranged in 2012 as part of the campaign "Let them climb" when members of the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service from Ogulin and Orebić in cooperation with the municipality of Orebić and the Mountaineering Society of St. Ilija arranged the first rock for climbing.
