Kodeljevo castle was built in the first half of the 17th century where, at the time, there was a large bend of the Ljubljanica river, though this was later regulated to flow elsewhere (1828). The abandoned riverbed was partially filled in (which are now tennis courts), while a few preserved elms in the park in front of the Kodeljevo Castle bear witness to the course of the old riverbed.
