Triple Bridge

A stone bridge dedicated to Archduke Charles was built on the site of a former medieval wooden bridge (Špitalski most, 1280). Due to the modernization of the city, it became too small. Instead of replacing it with a new bridge, the architect Plečnik preserved the stone bridge and added two pedestrian footbridges, which fan out onto the town square. He equipped the footbridges with staircases and unified the look with a new railing and lights, thus recreating the Mediterranean atmosphere.

(Jože Plečnik, 1931/32)
