A bridge that would connect Kongresni trg with Mestni trg had already been planned by Maks Fabiani in the city development plan of 1895 and by Jože Plečnik in his seminar. In 1991, a footbridge was built on this site for the first time, constructed of wooden beams, which would later be used in the renovation of the Three Bridges. The footbridge proved to be indispensable, but eventually deteriorated. The new footbridge (2014) with its minimalist style (thin steel walking structure with a glass fence) does not override the already established accents in the space.
