Temple of the Army of Zeus

The Temple of Army Zeus is located inside the citadel, at the northwestern end of the ancient city of Stratos. It was a religious and political center of all the Acarnanians, which was built between 321-312 BC, from local hard limestone, while it remained unfinished due to wars with the Aetolians. It was a temple of Doric style, divided into nave, pronaos and back, with 6 columns on the narrow and 11 on the long side, which were placed near its wall. Probably part of the nave was open, while the roof was supported by eight internal columns. Today only the foundations and ruins of the temple survive. This point of interest is Plain and Rural. Suitable season to visit: All-year-round. It is accessible through public transport. It has no fee or ticket. Visitable hours: Winter: 8:30-15:30, Summer: 8:30-15:30, TUE: CLOSED. Source of photographic material: Wikipedia.
