Pordenone and the writer Enrico Galliano

Enrico Galiano (Pordenone, 1977), a teacher in a suburban school, has created a web series named “Cose da prof” about his teaching experience, which has gained over twenty million Facebook views. He started the #poeteppisti movement, a flashmob of students who smear walls with poems. In 2015 he has been rated among the 100 best teachers of Italy by Masterprof.it website. He is also a novelist.

An ideal guide to discover Pordenone and its immediate surroundings is writer ENRICO GALIANO, who was born here and still lives in town. Tour the town to spot unusual perspectives, walking down the high street, Corso Vittorio Emanuele, immersed in the old atmosphere of elegant palaces and fresco-painted porticoes, which narrate the history of the place like the pages of a book. You may then reach  Piazzale XX settembre, the market square, where GALIANO used to help his parents at their trade stall. He avows that this experience trained his skills as an acute observer of people. Drive to Torre (some 3 km from the town centre) to visit the castle, erected on the late 13th century probably on the site, probably of Roman origin, of a harbour called Portus Naonis, from which Pordenone takes its name. The castle is now home to the Archaeological Museum of Western Friuli, which includes among others the finds from the pile dwellings of Palù di Livenza, one of 5 UNESCO World Heritage Site of the region. Between the municipalities of Pordenone and Porcia, the Lake of Burida (3 km from the town centre) is an artificial basin covering 12 hectares, a very interesting site for wildlife. This lake is one of the most Instagram-posted spots of Pordenone.
