Old Market of Patras (Markato)

The old market of Patras is located in the Markato district, which was built in 1699 during Venetian rule. Its name is due to the Italian word mercato which means market. The old buildings of the market were almost identical in terms of architecture, with the ground floor being the shop and the first floor being the shopkeeper's residence. Although demolished during the Turkish occupation, the market is still considered the center of the market of the city of Patras with many businessmen maintaining the traditional character of their shops. This point of interest is Plain and Urban. Suitable season to visit: All-year-round. It is accessible through public transport. It has no fee or ticket.
