Stairs of Ag. Nikolaos

The stairs of Agios Nikolaos are one of the three stairs that connect the Upper with the Lower city, were built during the interwar period, in 1934, and replaced the pre-existing winding earthen ascent. At the base of the stairs is the Church of Agios Nikolaos, from which they took their name, and the chapel of Agios Paisios, while at the top is the western part of the Fortress of Patras. It is one of the most popular attractions of the city as they offer magnificent views of the center of Patras, the Gulf of Patras and the mountains of Aitoloakarnania and have been designated a historical monument. Cultural events are often organized on the stairs and during the Patras Carnival they are decorated with special night lighting. This point of interest is Plain and Urban. Suitable season to visit: All-year-round. It is accessible through public transport. It has no fee or ticket. Source of photographic material: Wikipedia.
