Castle of Patras

The Castle of Patras dates back to the 6th century AD, during the reign of Justinian, and is located at the foot of Mount Panacheikos. It was built with building materials of the ancient Acropolis, which had been built on the spot but had nevertheless collapsed. The Castle has a long history, inextricably linked to the history of the city. In a special recess, is the Patrinela (or Patrinella), the element of Patras according to popular tradition, consisting of parts of two statues, the torso of a Roman man and the head of a mutilated bearded manThe deformed statue used to be visible from all over the city, before the construction of public buildings in front of it, and was said to take the form of a woman who protected the city. This point of interest is Plain and Urban. Suitable season to visit: All-year-round. It is accessible through public transport. It has no fee or ticket.
