Pontikokastro, Katakolo

Pontikokastro is located in Katakolo, Ileia, at the top of Ichthyos hill. It was built by the Franks in the 13th century and bears the names Bel Ventere, Bo Boer and castle of Katakolo. In the 14th century it was conquered by the Byzantines, while in 1470 it passed into the hands of the Ottomans. Now, it is ruined and inaccessible, due to the dense vegetation, while the only element that has survived is the stone tower on the northwest side of the castle and some remnants of the fortification. This point of interest is Mountainous and Rural. Suitable season to visit: All-year-round. It is not accessible through public transport. It has no fee or ticket.
