Empesos

Empesos is a semi-mountainous village of Aitoloakarnania and the seat of the homonymous local community that belongs to the Municipality of Amfilochia. It is built on the east side of the river Inachos and between the mountains of Valtos Kalanas, Mitseli and Zygos, while it is 41 km from Amfilochia. The inhabitants’ number amounts to 444, according to the 2011 census and are mainly engaged in agriculture and livestock. Some of the sights of the village are the Monastery of Agios Thomas, the Folklore-Historical Museum and the medieval Castle. The Cultural Association of Empesos is active in the village, founded in 1984 and organizes remarkable cultural activities, such as film nights, the choir of men and women, but also the cultural events Idomeneia, in collaboration with the Association of Empesians O Agios Thomas, operating in Athens. This point of interest is Mountainous and Rural. Suitable season to visit: All-year-round. It is accessible through public transport.
