Ancient City of Astakos

The ruins of the ancient fortified Akarnanian city of Astakos are located on a hill north of the present homonymous town. It was founded by settlers from Kefallinia and during the Byzantine period it experienced special prosperity as a provincial center, with the name Dragamesto. Inside the fortification there are two tanks, an ancient road, as well as ruins of medieval monuments and temples, such as the one dedicated to Zeus. This point of interest is Coastal and Rural. Suitable season to visit: All-year-round. It is not accessible through public transport. It has no fee or ticket.
