Acropolis of Ancient Alyzia

The ancient Akarnanian city of Alyzia is located northeast of the village of Kandila. The ruins of the ancient city extend to the area of ​​Mytikas, where its port was located. It had a special strategic position, which allowed it to control maritime communications, while during the Hellenistic period it experienced great prosperity, with its population exceeding 30,000 inhabitants. Today, parts of the defensive fortifications, the ruins of four defensive towers, as well as the remains of buildings, sanctuaries and cemeteries from the ancient citadel are preserved.
