Athena's Temple

The Temple of Athena is considered the oldest and most important monument of Ancient Alifera. It was a place of special worship of the goddess Athena, who according to tradition was born and raised in the ancient city of Alifera. The sanctuary is located in the eastern part of the fortified city, just below the citadel, which dominates the highest point of the hill. Dating around 500-490 BC, it is a Doric pavilion Temple and consists of several columns and a roof with marble tiles. The excavation findings include a large altar, as well as an inscribed pedestal to support the bronze colossal statue of the goddess Athena. This point of interest is Mountainous and Rural. Suitable season to visit: All-year-round. It is not accessible through public transport. It has no fee or ticket. Visiting hours: Outdoor areas. Constantly open.
