Paliakoumbas Castle

Paliakoumbas Castle together with the medieval settlement are located on a hill just one kilometer east of the Acropolis of the village of Platiana in Ileia. Due to its strategic location, the castle controls the two main old roads of the area and oversees a large part of the Alpfeios River valley. The medieval settlement probably developed in the 13th century, while the name of the castle was given by the scholar Meyer. Its perimeter is about 350 meters, the maximum length is 140 meters, while the maximum width is 35 meters, meaning it has a completely elongated shape. Ruins of buildings and houses have been found inside, but they are indistinguishable due to the dense vegetation. This point of interest is Mountainous and Rural. Suitable season to visit: All-year-round. It is not accessible through public transport. It has no fee or ticket. Visiting hours: Outdoor areas. Constantly open.
