Burial Monument of Markos Botsaris

The Burial Monument of Markos Botsaris is the most important monument in the Garden of the Heroes of the Holy City of Mesolongi. It was created by the sculptor Bonano in 1915, at the expense of Eleftherios Venizelos. It is an exact copy of the old monument of 1838, which is kept in the National Historical Museum of Athens. The monument was built in honor of the great national leader Markos Botsaris for his contribution to the independence of Greece. He fought bravely and heroically in the first defense of Mesolongi in 1822 and managed to disorient the Turks. He fell heroically in the battle of Kefalovrysos in 1823 and was buried with great honors in Mesolongi. This point of interest is Flat and Urban. It is accessible all year round. It is accessible through public transport. It has no fee or ticket.
