Landmark

Pelada 1

One of the most characteristic attractions of the area of Messolonghi are pelades, which could not be related to anything other than fishing.

Pelades are the wooden houses that seem to float in a mysterious way on the water. They are used as a "refuge" for fishermen.

Each of these houses has a large terrace around it, nice nautical colors and wooden decoration. All the houses are wooden with a lot of human work and addition on them. The balconies of the houses in the lake, which are supported by poles, are beautiful.

Pelades, as these houses are called, were used by fishermen to store their tools and stay there during the winter. It is said that Kostis Palamas also stayed in a pelada.
