Italian charnel house in Kobarid

In the 1930s, a charnel house was built around the Church of St. Anthony of Padua for the Italian soldiers who had died in the Upper Soča Region during the First World War. They were transferred here from fifteen military cemeteries, from Log pod Mangartom to Kamno. Laid to rest in the niches behind greenish serpentinite slabs are mortal remains of 7,014 Italian soldiers, 4,267 of them identified, with their names inscribed on the slabs, and 2,748 remaining unknown.
