A plaque on the façade recalls that Alexander Wheeler Thayer, an American diplomat and consul in Trieste for almost 30 years, lived and died here. In this house he devoted himself to his great passion for Ludwig van Beethoven, becoming his most accredited biographer. He died in 1897 and rests today in the Evangelical Cemetery in Trieste.
