The building was erected in the mid-fifteenth century, following the decision to house the relic of the Sacred Tablecloth in Valvasone, manifested through a miraculous event similar to the one that led to the construction of the Cathedral of Orvieto, whose external design the Cathedral of Valvasone emulates. The work of construction lasted several years and was not completed until late 1500. In addition to the relic, the church holds valuable artworks, including the organ shutters painted by Pordenone and the choir stalls by Pomponio Amalteo.
