A stunning example of Gothic style, the cathedral building in Gemona was constructed as it stands today between the end of the thirteenth and the beginning of the fourteenth century. The façade with its three rose windows, which were spared by the earthquake, is the result of a radical nineteenth-century renovation. The interior of the church, on the other hand, suffered heavy damage and underwent extensive renovation, which involved the addition of a steel and reinforced concrete framework, entirely hidden within the colonnade.
