This territory contains emergencies of great environmental interest so as to merit in 1988 the establishment of the Regional Park of Corno alle Scale, to protect and enhance an area of about 5,000 hectares entirely included within the municipality of Lizzano in Belvedere.

It is particularly representative both of the typical landscapes of the middle Apennine mountains, and of the altitude environments with more markedly Alpine traits.

The millenary presence of man has often shaped the territory to adapt it to his needs of life, but coexistence has always been respectful, because the mountain man knows that his survival depends largely on the use he makes of the environment.
